what is a site map?

If you have submitted your website to the major search engines such as Google, Bing and yahoo, then they would want to know what this website is talking about. They want to know one by one what the pages of this website are talking about; your submitting of the website only inform them that your site exist and not of the pages that are contained in it.
So, each search engine has designed a technology called crawler which is in a likeness of a spider (scarcely called spider and Bot). This technology would come to your site and move over all the pages of your website and to scan them to gather important information such as meta-data and specific (whether it is for the age eighteen plus or for all viewers) contents such as videos, images and other mobile contents and return to the respective search engine so that the pages scanned can be indexed.
These technologies can only work efficiently through your help or directions. They need you to provide them with a site map.
Just as there is a Google map or the Earth  map to tell us the direction of places on the earth surface to more efficiently move and even to places we haven't  been before, so as, as the name infer, a site-map does to crawlers. Site-map helps or direct crawlers to more intelligently crawl on your site to gather valuable information.
So if you have not done your site-map, you have got to do so now. There are two ways to do this:
1) you are to list all the pages URL s of your site on a file. If you submitted to Google web-master tool, then with your computer and a modern swap in, you can go to Google for this file so that you can list all the pages of your site on it.
2) you can create a unique linking network of link  that goes from page to page until  all the pages of your site are all round linked. This method of linking will not be efficient especially if your site is that large type. So you have to do the combination system. The two systems are what we normally call the site-map.
Search engines crawler are like a tourist who only knows who to come to particular country but does not know about how to move from one state of that country to the other except that this tourist will use that country map to be able to move more efficiently  from state to state. And this also the case with search engines crawler.

These technologies need your site-map to be able to move on your site. The site-map is that linking system and file that contain all the pages URL s of your site and crawlers read this file like a map to more intelligently crawl your site.
