in the Sunday night Las Vegas shooting where a gunman identified as Stephen Paddock, on a high floor of a las vegas hotel opened guns fire on an outdoor concert festival where 527 injured and 59 others had been killed---being the worst mass attack by a gun in modern US history, according to a report. However, Facebook, Google, and Twitter have spent the past several weeks insisting they are ever loyal to the ending of the advancement of misinformation and malicious speech on their platforms. facebook, and google, soon after the event took place, had began populating rumours from unreliable sources on their respective platform.
Early on Monday, viral fake-news from 4Chan (a community based on the INTERNET) where the attacker was identified as ''Geary Danley'' rocked across the platforms and to the top of Google's search algorithm.
On seeing this fake-news on google search result, Pundit, a website known for having the reputation of spreading fake news soon board about it and was threw up to the top by Google.
On realizing the mistakes," Google said in a statement. "Within hours, the 4chan story was algorithmically replaced by relevant results. This should not have appeared for any queries, and we'll continue to make algorithmic improvements to prevent this from happening in the future."
Google also through its spokesperson early today, sent an unprompted email offering additional information about how Top Stories works and what lead to the 4chan links being included in the module. According to Google, inclusion in Top Stories is determined by a number of factors, including both the “authoritativeness” of a site and how “fresh” the link is. The company said the Top Stories module for searches of “Geary Danley” was triggered by an increase in queries of that name. Since 4chan is arguably not an authoritative website, the freshness of the story seemingly pulled the link into Google’s module.
